My classical guitars always wear one of these three styles of strings,
whether I'm recording, teaching or playing live.
Each one has a little different characteristics.
Each lends itself to a particular style of nylon string playing.

The Martin M120s are traditional nylon trebles with
silver plated copper wound basses. I consider these M120s
to be good, general purpose strings for most students that play
nylon string guitars, whether they study classical method or they
play pop/rock/country whatever on a nylon string guitar.

If you are performing or recording traditional classical or nylon folk guitar,
jazz, bossa nova, samba, pop, Mex restaurant potted plant etc.,
I'recommend using the D'Addario EJ44 NYLONs. They are
a little higher in tension and therefore a little louder. Even if
you don't need the extra volume, a louder string can be played with
a lighter touch to achieve the same volume level as a lighter tension string.
If you're playing for several hours at a time, like in a restaurant gig,
that lighter touch factor can be a great relief to your endurance ability.

If you are playing Flamenco or Pseudo-Flamenco (Estaban-a-menco)
I would recommend harder tension Flamenco composites. They are loud
and the composite construction means they don't stretch as much as
traditional nylon. String them up, tune up, and they pretty much stay
where you put them. You don't have to "chase the tuning" for days like
you sometimes have to do with regular nylon strings.
