you've surely read how I've played fretted instruments professionally
for 40+ years. During those years years I've tried every brand, type and gauge
string I can get my hands on.
Here's yet another string I've been experimenting with.
And I like it!
GHS Golden Bronze
These acoustic guitar strings use bronze plated wire for the cores
of the wound strings, and for the plain strings. They are not unlike
the CF Martin SP style strings, which I am very fond of as well.
These are 80/20 Bronze, not phosphor bronze. That means the ratio of
copper to zinc is 80 to 20, instead of 92 to 8 as it is in a typical PhosBronze string.
80/20 strings start out sounding brighter or "brassier" than Phosphor Bronze strings.
If you leave them on long enough they mellow out a little more than PhosBronze.
So that means that if you want a brighter string, use 80/20's and change them frequently.
If you want a more mellow string, either use PhosBronze and change frequently,
or for even more mellow, use 80/20's and leave them on a little longer.
